New Penn

The New Penn module supports LTL shipments to the United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) and Canada. StarShip supports rating, shipping, pickup, tracking, voiding pickups, and retrieving proof of delivery for New Penn. StarShip also prints the BOL, package, and pallet labels.

Web Services

To start using New Penn web services, contact New Penn's IT department (webservices@newpenn.com) and request a User ID and Password, and access to Rate Quote, BOL/PU/Return, Shipment Tracking, and POD/BOL Images for New Penn’s production web services. You will then use this login information to set up your New Penn account in StarShip.

New Penn setup is accessible from Setup > Carrier Interface > New Penn. For instructions on adding a New Penn account, see  Account Setup.

Main Tab

The Main tab consists of two general New Penn settings that you can configure :

• Disable use of New Penn :  Check this option if you do not want New Penn to be available for rating or shipping. New Penn will not appear in the Carrier field on the Shipment tab.
• Enable background tracking : Background tracking collects shipment data so that you can look up delivery information for past shipments and generate late deliveries reports from the StarShip Dashboard.
  Background tracking must be generally enabled for StarShip in the StarShip Server under Tools > Options > Background Tracking. It can then be enabled/disabled for each individual carrier in carrier setup.

Carriers Tab

The Carriers tab will only show New Penn Motor Express as a supported carrier. Entries cannot be added or deleted.

Accounts tab

The New Penn Interface must have at least one default account to be available for shipping. Accounts are set up per Location.

Account Setup

1. On the Accounts tab, click Add.
2. Enter your account information. Then, click OK.
   
3. Account Name : Enter a unique name to identify this account in StarShip.
4. Account Number : Enter the company's New Penn account number.
5. API Username/API Password : Enter the username and password assigned by New Penn to use web services. Note : The Username and Password are those provided for web service access and are not the same as the login for the New Penn website.
6. Company Name and Address fields : Type in your company name and address or select a Sender Address from the Address ID field to automatically populate the fields. Note : The account address must match the address for the account number provided. The account address zip code will be used for rating.

3. Click the Settings tab. To request pickup via the web, check the "Request Shipment Pickup" check box.
4. Click OK. The account appears in the Accounts list.

Account Settings

This section allows you to change specific settings for the listed accounts. If you set up multiple accounts, you can maintain different settings for each account. To change settings for accounts, click on the account and then make your changes by selecting from the drop-down lists.

• Default Prepaid Billing Type : This is the default Billing Type for shipments that are paid for by the shipper. You can select from Sender or any other 3PL that you set up in Maintain > 3PL. These settings affect the options available under Billing on the Shipment tab.

• Tendering Type : The choices are Electronic, Call or Daily Pickup. StarShip only sends a pickup request to New Penn when "Electronic" is selected. For the other options, you must contact the carrier directly.

• Disabled : Check to disable this account. Once disabled, you will not be able to rate or ship using this account and it will not be available in the Accounts drop-down field.

Reference Fields

Reference fields allow you to print additional information on the BOL using a reference field, such as the PO#, or any other information that may not normally appear in a shipment’s details. StarShip supports 2 reference fields at the shipment level.

BOL

New Penn supports one address line. In cases where Address 2 and Address 3 field data is present, select how StarShip should handle it.

• Ignore : Address 2 and Address 3 field data is discarded.
• Warn : StarShip prompts the user with the option to stop processing the shipment and change the recipient address, or continue processing the shipment with the address as-is.
• Combine : Address 2 and Address 3 field data is appended to the Address 1 field, with a maximum character limit of 30 characters.
