StarShip allows users to ship using the fee-based FedEx Delivery Signature Options: Direct Signature Required, Indirect Signature Required, and Adult Signature Required. Users can also choose Deliver Without Signature, with no fee.
FedEx no longer requires a signature for Express shipments delivered to residences. If a signature is needed for a residential shipment, you can choose one of these FedEx Delivery Signature Options.
Note: If one of the three signature options is not selected, FedEx may deliver the shipment without a signature.
Indirect Signature Required : FedEx can obtain a signature from any person at the delivery address, from a neighbor, building manager or other person at a neighboring address, or a signed FedEx door tag authorizing release of the package without anyone present.
Direct Signature Required : FedEx can obtain a signature from any person at the delivery address. If no one is at the address, FedEx will attempt redelivery. The recipient may also choose to pick up the package at the location listed on the door tag.
Adult Signature Required : FedEx can obtain a signature from any person at least 21 years old (government-issued photo identification required) at the delivery address. If no one is at the address, FedEx will reattempt delivery. The recipient may also choose to pick up the package at the location listed on the door tag.
For shipments to non-residential addresses, you can choose from two FedEx Delivery Signature Options.
Direct Signature Required : FedEx can obtain a signature from any person at the delivery address. If no one is at the address, FedEx will attempt to redeliver on the next business day. The Direct Signature Required option overrides any recipient release that may be on file for nonresidential deliveries.
Adult Signature Required: FedEx can obtain a signature from any person at least 21 years old (government-issued photo identification required) at the delivery address. Note: The Adult Signature Required option overrides any recipient release that may be on file.
Notes:
Ground Commercial or Home Delivery: Delivery without Signature is not available.
Express and Ground Commercial Deliveries: Indirect Signature Option is not available.
There are also two other options you can choose from on the StarShip shipment screen:
No Signature Required : FedEx will not obtain a signature.
Not Specified : This is the default setting. For Residential addresses, this is the same as "Deliver without signature." For Commercial addresses, FedEx will deliver without a signature if the signature release is on file; otherwise FedEx will require a signature from the location or a neighboring address.

The Signature option is available on the Shipment tab. Check the Signature Option check box and then choose the type of Signature option from the Type drop-down list. A description of each option displays when you select it, and the fee appears in the upper right corner. You may also type in a release authorization number in the Release # field.
