Example 7 : Disable Handling Fee

When Package or Shipment Handling Fee rules have been set up and the conditions of a rule has been met, the Handling Fee check box is automatically checked on Ship screen. For some shipments, you may not want to charge a handling fee even if handling fee rules apply.

To do this, you can configure handling fee rules to apply only when the Handling Fee check box is checked. Or you can set the handling fee to a zero amount if the Handling Fee check box is unchecked.

This example shows you how to use the Handling Fee check box from the Ship screen as a condition in the freight rule so that the user can de-select the option to override other freight rules that set a handling fee.

  1. Create a rule from the Freight Rules Viewer by clicking Add New Rule.

  2. Select the type of handling fee value you want to modify (Package or Shipment). Click Next.

    Select Fixed Amount. Click Next.

  3. Select to enter an amount, and leave the default setting to "0.00" per "shipment." Click Next.

  4. Select "Only under certain conditions" and click Define Conditions.

Set the first Operand. Navigate to Shipment > Options > Handling Fee and select Checked. Accept the default operator of "is equal to," and set the second operand to "N." Click OK.

Click Next for the completed rule description. Check "If this rule applies do not process any additional rules."

  5. Click Finish. In the Freight Rules Viewer, move the rule to a position where it is the last handling fee rule processed.
